Happy New Year, January 1, 2014!

Three weeks ago today, I had a bilateral total knee replacement (i.e., both). Buffy checked me into surgery. My wonderful brother Peter flew down from Boston to be there when I woke up and stay with me for a couple of days. Here's a photo he took on Day 2:
Anyway, I was in the hospital for three days, and then moved downstairs to the rehab unit for 10 days. The therapists at Augusta Medical Center are fabulous! Dr. Pereles, my surgeon, is my hero forever. I was so fortunate to have the support of Buffy, Peter, Mom, Pam, Nancy, and Linda Dorian, who is the queen of visiting nurses/friends. While I was in therapy, she supported the local economy in Staunton, bringing back her treasures for show and tell. Here's the final verse of a poem in her honor: On the twelfth day of rehab Linda brought to me Twelve huge hugs Eleven shelled almonds Ten chocolate truffles Nine special creams Eight bits of jewelry Seven local papers Six hygiene items Five packs of gum Four funny coasters Three Aveeno creams Two sparkling waters and A bouquet of flowers in a glass vase. And, of course, her cheer and smile! It was terrific to have Linda here during rehab…made all the difference!
